Pin drop map

Drop up to 100 colored pins with notes and a legend, then download them as CSV or GeoJSON.

Short answer

Click the map or search an address to drop a pin. Type a note and pick a color first; a legend lists every pin. Drop up to 100 pins, then download them as CSV or GeoJSON. Pins stay in your browser and are never uploaded.

0 / 100 pins. Download your pins to keep a copy.

The CSV you get

The CSV file has three columns: lat, lon, and note. Latitude and longitude are decimal degrees on WGS84 at full precision. Notes are quoted, and quote marks inside a note are doubled, so the file opens cleanly in Excel, Google Sheets, and LibreOffice.

The GeoJSON file is a FeatureCollection of Point features with the note as both the name and a property.

How to use it

  1. Type a label in Note for the next pin, or leave it empty, and pick a Pin color.
  2. Click the map or search a place to drop the pin. The legend under the map lists every pin with its note and color.
  3. Repeat for each place. The counter under the buttons shows how many of the 100 pins you have used.
  4. Press CSV or GeoJSON to download all pins. Press Clear to remove them.

What people use it for

A pin map is the quickest way to turn a list of places into a picture: sites to visit, delivery stops, trail markers, survey points. Because the export has plain coordinates, you can move the pins into another tool without retyping.

Paste the CSV into the distance matrix to compare every pair, or into the multi-stop distance tool for an ordered trip.

How exact a pin is

A clicked pin lands where the map puts your pointer. At street zoom that is within a few meters. At country zoom a single pixel covers kilometers. Zoom in before clicking when position matters. A searched pin lands on the point Photon returns for the address, which is usually the building or the street.

Privacy

Pins and notes are held in memory in your tab. They are not sent to Online Map Tools. Searching sends only the search text to the Photon geocoder. Closing or reloading the tab clears the pins, so download first. For colors and a legend, use the map with legend tool.

Opening the files later

The CSV opens in any spreadsheet and can be reloaded here with CSV to map, which finds the lat and lon columns automatically. The GeoJSON file opens in the GeoJSON viewer and in most GIS software.

Keep the file name meaningful, since the export is always named pins.csv or pins.geojson. Rename the file right after downloading so several maps do not overwrite each other in your downloads folder.
